Crest Chicken Sulu & Jaba Designing Competition

Fiji Fashion Week and Crest Chicken are proud to announce the first ever "Sulu & Jaba Competition". We’re celebrating Fiji’s traditional outfit. The Sulu & Jaba Competition is being used by FJFW to reach out to people all over Fiji who are able to sew a Jaba. It’s a design competition for everyone!

 

This is an opportunity is to show our nation and the world, the true beauty and elegance of this traditional outfit and to ensure its longevity as a garment of choice for any occasion. Most importantly this competition is intended to modernise the Sulu & Jaba and take it into the 21st century as a garment that can be worn by women of all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds!

 

There is also a serious economic aim for the competition. Fashion production is one of the world’s biggest employers and if we can encourage people to hone their talents and produce garments to sell, then our economy can only benefit.

We are also proud and excited to welcome Crest Chicken as the major sponsor of this event. Crest Chicken is always looking for ways to support rural Fiji and we hope that this competition provides a good platform to do this.

 

First prize will include $500 cash, $250 worth of Crest products and a Pure Fiji hamper. Winners will be determined at a live judging session on 17th September at Suva’s TappooCity food court. We hope people will have a lot of fun at the live finals. It could be a little bit like Jaba Idol!

 

Judging criteria for the event will be based on:

Creativity and uniqueness

Choice of material

Construction and finishing

Overall look of the outfit including accessories

 

Entrants need to register by Friday 9th September by calling or texting 7088895. The live judging session will then begin at 10am 17th September. More information can be found on the Fiji Fashion Week website or Facebook page.
