Fashion week festivals are a global trend offering amazing business networking opportunities for designers, buyers, retailers, models etc. For Fiji and the Pacific at large, this offers an exciting opportunity to profile a new and vibrant colourful Fiji to the world.
As a developing economy the festival provides a unique opportunity to create sustainable economic and cultural investment.
The first ever Fiji Fashion Week held 4-7 December 2008 at the Hilton hotel, Nadi, was regarded as a great success. It was celebrated by the press, international guests, designers and organizers as a fantastic foundation on which to build.
Hence a new company, Fiji Fashion Week Ltd (FFW) was formed on January 6 2009, to develop Fiji Fashion Week as a precursor to creating a new industry based on fashion. The intention is to make Fiji Fashion Week one of the most prominent and celebrated events on Fiji's social calendar.
Since our inception FFW have introduced a series of workshops. Plans are also now in place to introduce Fiji's first Fashion design course into Fiji National University.
We are also working closely with the ministry of Education to introduce fashion design into the school curriculum. In conjuction with TVET, plans are also underway for a school's mini fashion week.
We will create an international fashion event that will foster Pacific fashion and take it to the world to build a meaningful fashion trade whilst nurturing creative opportunities.
